A simple reason why we're not in a Simulation- No entity, once intelligent and capable enough of making a perfect simulation (such as this world) would actually go through with it. Simulating so many beings bound to experience such multitudes of inevitable misery and every imaginable negative state, almost infinitely is not something a perfectly intelligent and competent being/entity would ever do. This philosophical "simulation hypothesis" makes a BIG and improbable assumption, that the creators of such a simulation would be so technologically advanced, yet at the same time, running on primitive, imperfect, even sadistic ideas of what to turn the lives of the simulated (us) into.

@elfenbeinturm-media I'm certainly not making any claims of being in a simulation. The initial point was that IF this was a simulation, we could just be simulated/coded in a way where we are functionally incapable of finding out this is a simulation, where if an intelligent entity is smart enough to simulate this entire universe, it is certainly going to be smart enough to outsmart anything it simulates. Simply a hypothetical.

It could just make it impossible for us to know the truth, it could modify any part of the simulation without us even knowing it.

@elfenbeinturm-media Bad ideas are worth thinking about, rather than being applied. That's how we move towards better information. By starting from bold baseless claims. It's a process of eliminating the worst ideas, bit by bit.

@elfenbeinturm-media Yes, and an intelligent being that would make a simulation with such accuracy, would inherently be smart enough to stop "us"(just parts of the simulation) from discovering any part of the simulation generating machinery, be it the RAM, cpu, or anything. But of course, I don't in any way feel convinced of being in a simulation. Because a being with sufficient knowledge to make such a simulation would also know the suffering it would create. And therefore it wouldn't do such a thing as it serves no purpose to an all-knowing entity. If this world world is a simulation, it is going to be imperfect, as only imperfect, sadistic beings would be compelled to make it, for their own schadenfreude.

@teemumiettinen7250 @Teemu Miettinen It's definitely a fun thought experiment, but there's some logical hurdles to go over before it feels truly plausible. One being the simulation would need energy. Assuming the simulation makers are super smart, they'll not abandon something, leave it running unknowingly, or fail at anything they try in general. Also the morality and utility question comes into play. Any task needs to pass a high threshold of "should be done" for a super intelligent entity to go ahead and build a simulation of this scale and literally 0 errors.
