It allowed itself to be used for political purposes to give a fig leaf of credibility to the government's migration replacement policy, if the lifeboats were helping then there could be a veneer of credibility. There was absolutely no reason the Royal Navy was unable to do this task. The area of the coastline involved is relatively small and could be covered by patrol boats and coast guard boats. The RNLI brand is destroyed for many people and will have to be funded by the taxpayer from now on.
