  1. The tragedy of the disintegration of Yugoslavia should be a warning to all the advocates of a federal European Union. The idea that national identities can be ignored or erased is very foolish. As an Irish person, in no way do I regard myself as a European citizen. Europe is simply a geographical location. I have as much interest in Slovenia as I do for Paraguay.
