  2. When i was a kid, there was no recycling in my town (Lévis, QC). i don't know how i had heard our city had a paper recycling plant (called VIA). I convinced 3 of my friends to go door to door each Sunday with a wheelie cart and we would ask the neighbours to give us their junk paper, empty cereal boxes, this week's flyers etc and bring that back and fill my dad's trunk, then bring it to the recycling plant. Sometimes, we had to drive there twice. Then a few years later, the blue bins appeared. True story 💜

  4. I'm always impressed at how immaculately clean the buses and trains are in Vancouver compared to some other Canadian cities. Puke and sticky floors on bused and grime on the subway is common in Montreal, and some of the cars are still from the 60s although we see more and more of the new Azur ones. And Vancouverites still complain! They often have no idea how good they have it there 😄

  5. Nice to see the Skeena route is still going. I can't wait to take the Canadian again. Apparently they are totally refurbishing the cars during the covid stoppage. I've taken it 35+ times, both in sleeper and coach. Lots of vlogs on my channel (bilingual too)🙃

  7. I take the Skytrain to the airport with my cat. It is hands down the easiest, fastest, best way to get there. I don't even have to take the cat backpack off my back or pull the luggage inside a taxi trunk. I love it. 👍 Oh and they don't always do it but last time they gave us priority boarding (on Economy) because i was with my cat! I was the first person on the plane LOL. It felt so great! Like we were royalty.

  10. Haha i live in Lévis, QC and don't drive (by choice) so my life still revolves around the ferry schedule. My best friend & lifelong neighbor Marcel who passed away last July used to play accordion on it every night going back and forth, back and forth. he'd get on at 7 or 8 and get off at midnight, sometimes i went to get him and we'd walk home together. Lévis was also a train town, with the ferry station right by the old train station (train stopped coming in 1998). Installations are still there, just repurposed.

  11. I got sidetracked in February after my father passed away and i finally get to watch this today. My grandfather was a conductor on the Ocean. While rummaging through papers yesterday, i found a typewritten report of a train accident from 1934 🚂 (when it was not called the Ocean, just wthe Montreal-Halifax CN tpassenger train). I also found a bus ticket from Vancouver in the 1950s, as my dad went there to work because you could earn 3$ an hour there back then instead of 2$ in Québec.

  13. We've been bi-weekly for years here (Lévis, QC). One week trash, one week recycling. I also love that we can put leaves (or grass) in the food waste bins and in the summer and fall, they pick them up more often (weekly) so you can get th eleaves off your yard every week (We have lots of mature trees). 🍁

  16. I have a golden rail spike that my husband brought me back from a train hopping trip from Québec to Halifax and he spray painted it gold. So i got a little choked up at the Craigellachie bit. There is nothing quite like travelling by train, my grandfather was a conductor for the CN and i've myself spend over 3 months of my life on a train if you put all my trips back to back. It's not "boring" like some people think, it's a lot more exicitng than flying or other modes of travel. It really shaped who i am as a person and made me more adventurous i think. I enjoy your channel so much! ❤️ and that bit waving at your friends was just priceless hahaha

  17. Hm, one thing i always bring in the dome car is my shawl because even in the middle of July, it gets chilly with the air coming between small spaces in the windows... So those heated seats are genius. And passing a freight train? Yeah, that's not something you'll get on Via Rail! Funny cuz i also filmed a train bathroom scene in my latest vlog ☺

  25. You need to change the title to "a typical day in Squamish" lol. It's different! A typical day in Vancouver for me is : breakast at Coo Coo Cafe (or Red Umbrella or Delany's or Waves or Breka or or or), matcha latte, beach, free book shelf on the street, trolley bus, film something, ride trolley bus, write mail, dinner on Denman outside, walk by Jim Deva plaza, stare at rainbow lights. Typical day in Squamish is : breakfast at Mountain Burger House, discount thrift shopping on Cleveland avenue, walking around on trails, placing pennies on train tracks, reading in hammock at Squamish Adventure Inn, film murals and/or graffiti, dinner at Zephyr Cafe outside, watch playoffs at Cliffside Cider (if applicable), get ice cream at 2Chill gelato, watch freight train go by, pick up flattened pennies. ❤

  29. There's some wild lavender growing behind Bridgeport station. It smells really good. I discovered that on my way to my wedding at the Canada-US border last October. Yes, i took transit to my wedding. And a taxicab. 🚆🚌🚕💍❤

Loved this year's Celebration of Light, though it has been reduced due to some people "complaining about the noise and traffic", hence only 3. The 1st ones i saw was in 1997 and i couldn't believe the crowds! 🎇

  32. Poutine isnt made with mozzarella... Also, it's a Québec staple that Canada appropriated. You need the gouda type cheese that squeaks, and the sheer small amount of cheese on that "poutine" made it a crime. Just FYI. There's no authentic Poutine outside of Québec because it's just too pricey to export the cheese.

I thought i had done a pretty crazy job restoring the original wooden LÉVIS train station sign, white paint with the beveled corners painted black and the original black paint lettering (took me 2 months, with a teeny tiny paintbrush so as not to alter the original hand-painted shape of the letters) - you can see a similar sign on Jasper's station still, and they used to be all over Canada... The Lévis one i recuperated when the station closed in 1998, and after restoring it, i screwed it on top of the wall in my studio in Lévis. But the whale skeleton??? That another level. Captain Dave is really a badass!!! 👍

  39. Haha when i was filming the ice sculptures in Québec City back in February my camera kept freezing... I even made contraptions with wool gloves and heating pads to try and keep it going. Gotta love Canada! ❤

  43. Mike; i don't know HOW you can cycle AND vlog AND hold the camera and FILM at the same time! I got myself a 360 phone mount for my bike so it can film in portrait mode and thankfully, my new phone can alternate from regular to selfie cam without stopping the video which the old one didn't!

  44. In my latest vlog i took Business class from Montreal to Quebec and i critiqued the train engineer's driving because he was finishing the horn blasts too early ( the last long one has to be while it's on the crossing and he was always a second early ) lol 😄

  49. Exactly! I produce almost no "real" waste (the black bin) and little food waste (we have a smaller brown bin for that) but my full sized blue bin (recycling) is always FULL. And we don't have those nifty yellow bags here in Québec!
