  43. pink1237480 I’ve never seen Power but it is not a mainstream television show accesible the average viewing public as it is on a Premium cable network. And funny enough that you mention the dark skin female lead because while I haven’t seen the show I have seen 50 Cent, the shows creator or executive producer (again never seen the show not sure of his title) post a photo comparing Naturi Nauton to an animal/male creature from some sort of cartoon on his social media which is one of the oldest colorist tropes comparing black dark skin women to animals and men. Anyways there is NOTHING “horrible” about light skin people “succeeding.” I’m not sure if you watched the whole vid where I said light skin people’s experiences are valid and their stories deserve to be heard but when it is the ONLY voice being heard on every major television show and dark skin voices are not, that is the problem. Maybe your life experiences make you believe dark skin people are “privileged” as a light skin person but that is absolutely unfathomable and a gross misrepresentation of the lived experiences of dark skin people at large globally. And I say that as someone who is neither dark nor light. I strongly recommend you listen to the stories of dark skin (especially women) people to learn of the horrors they face both inside the black community and in white spaces. Your statement that dark skin people are privileged demonstrates a deep rooted lack of understanding of their lived experiences and the only how you can learn is to listen to UNDERSTAND not to respond. I don’t mean to undermine your experiences with racism because they are VALID. Being lighter skin does NOT make you impervious to racism. But I implore you to listen to dark skin people’s stories and educate yourself on skin color privilege. I wish I alone could educate you, but there are better resources that can guide you if you are willing to learn. Now more than ever, our communities need to be doing the work to improve every facet of our livelihood as Black folks. I wish you the best of everything and respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it with me ❤️
