  5. iamihop Yea you're right I think it's way too polarized, however I believe if government followed the Constitution we wouldn't have most the problems we do. Quite frankly I'm sick of the news every day centering around government. It's hollywood for the ugly and untalented. This I guarantee you, the more power Washington gets the worse things will be. I believe in a strong society and safety net but putting government at the center of it is like the inmates running the asylum. Their only answer is to give them more and they will make it better.  I have a plan, let's turn Washington into a museum, send the politicians back to their constituents where they can do their jobs online for everyone to see, away from lobbyists and surrounded by the people they are supposed to represent.  They will only make the average of their constituents salary AND NO Retirement. After two terms they go back to where they came from true public servants as it was meant to be.  The IRS replaced by a flat national sales tax so everyone has "skin" in the game. No more printing and borrowing money, if the economy is truly good, government will benefit too, if it's bad they will have plenty of motivation to get off their asses to come up with a real fix.  No more omnibus bills full of pork and goodies , passing a law will be specific to only that law not bribes for representatives on the fence.  Laws claiming to "help" people will be judged every year on their merits. Funding will be cut to any not meeting standards.  Funding to any bureaucratic alpha bet departments (HHS, DHS, EPA etc etc) sunsets every year and is subject to a positive reinstatement by Congress. The Constitution never gave authority with the force of law to any unelected bureaucracy. Missing money such as billions unaccounted for will be dealt with by those who were  supposed to be in charge of it incarcerated until every last cent is accounted for.  etc etc Just a few of my own thoughts.

  8. tonyfalca Your response is uninformed.  Time and Space had a beginning Just because your mind has a hard time comprehending it doesn't mean it's not the case. Yes the universe is about 14billion years old and it has a specific size and shape.

  12. tonyfalca GPS calculations are based on time dilation. the Big Bang , red shift , any particle accelerator, cloud chambers, general  relativity, the speed of light, the age of the universe  etc etc.  You can't even conceive the reality of what is already known. Like most religions you have chosen to believe what you want and I can't help you.

  13. tonyfalca If you understood a word of what I wrote you would understand GPS calculations incorporate the difference between the rate of time on the surface of the earth and the time rate of the satellites in orbit. This is absolute proof time is temporal and variable. The age of the universe is based on the speed of light and the size of the universe (not just the stuff in it ). Anyone with a little education knows and understands this , it's not theory its a proven fact and modern technology would not even work without these calculations. So mock what you don't understand, your ignorance is showing.

  16. iamihop Expanding space is direct evidence of a limited universe, Also there is no space without time and we know the size of the universe based on many calculations. That being said the universe (our reality) may not be all there is no one could ever prove that. The biggest problem with a limited universe is human understanding. Like with the big bang all matter space and energy compressed into nothing or almost nothing is mind boggling. You appear to at least grasp the concept more than the average YTer.

Your tiny brain can't conceive of a finite universe and you just dismiss limited temperature and limited velocity. I say the Universe is locally contracting at every black hole , and no one knows if gravity will overcome expansion (dark matter vs dark energy). The Cosmological Constant is still ringing within the limited universe, you can't explain that with an infinite universe. What you quoted is utter nonsense.   22. iamihop What's not alarming to me is most people cannot conceive of a finite universe because it takes intelligence and a lot of unlearning of subjective spacetime. It doesn't seem natural to our experience.  The Big Bang a finite universe has been the prevailing theory since the late 20's and Relativity was birthed before that. If you want more proof just look at black holes where space and time cease to exist in the singularity. There are other theories and I cannot say whether there are other universes (I think it's probable). String Theory requires other dimensions to work out it's mathematics and we have no real evidence of 10 other dimensions. It takes a lot more faith to believe in 10 more dimensions than a finite universe. I have evolved over the years and theories to come to where I am. I have made a bold statement and I believe it's true as do most prevailing studies today. You made an even bolder statement that I'm "dead wrong" asserting your "belief" in a lesser known theory. Your rejection of main stream theory is either ignorant or commendable depending on your knowledge and understanding of it.

  27. A singularity is not a state of existence in this universe. It would be defined as non existent with no space or time. As soon as it came into existence it wasn't infinite either.

  28. RAy Chan Einstein's Relativity is based on space and time being variable not the constant subjectively experienced by our human experience. He arrived at this when it was proved light speed was a constant , every observer would measure light speed the same even someone on a spaceship traveling at near the speed of light. Instead of the light slowing it is the observers time that slows. This is absolutely proven and used to calculate GPS coordinates every day.  A lot of people think the big bang was all the matter compressed and then expanded into the current universe. It was also all the space and before the big bang there was no time or space. This is main stream science and it is difficult for the human mind to comprehend the spacetime component.

  31. iamihop In the macroscopic universe General Relativity is the rule and at some point it will be unified with quantum mechanics but that has no bearing on my statement about the known universe having a beginning and a definite size.

  35. iamihop Congratulations on your faith. I am Agnostic leaving to possibilities open because as you have stated no one knows and nothing has been proven. It has to take a ton of faith to be an atheist knowing that no one knows and nothing has been proven.  The big bang is a mainstream theory backed up by real math and many decades of research, you and your little fruit fly buddy are maintaining a lot of faith that it is not true, so be it.

  36. iamihop Sounds like an oxymoron, on the one hand you agree no one knows but on the other hand there is certainty that there is no deity. You might as well be an Agnostic Christian or an Agnostic Muslim, hey why not  just put words together some great non-authority will come up with a definition. I do however differ with the strict definition of Agnostic in that it also takes faith to believe that the answer is not knowable, it may indeed  be but we don't know and unless some deity reveals himself it will remain unknown.  On a side note I keep looking for the Agnostic Church in my city but no one knows if there is one. LOL

  37. iamihop I'm not buying the logic, the system is not binary, believing there is no deity is an affirmation that something doesn't exist and that requires as much faith as believing it does in the absence of proof . If you hold that the possibility of there being a deity is to one degree or less the same as to no deity then you shouldn't claim to be Atheistic.  I'm merely saying there are people who believe in a deity , there are people who believe there is no deity and there are Agnostics who hold that there may be, or may not be a deity .  I'm thinking of starting my own Agnostic Church for tax reasons because I don't believe the money I spend on taxes every year.

We must be pure Agnostic not corrupted by faith in a position that is a compromise. I would hate to cast you out as an Aheretic before we even open the doors. Let us call those who lean one way or another ignorant because they claim belief or disbelief in something they could not possibly know.   39. iamihop No, but I've been to the UK and that is a lot more ancient than I'm used to. I guess religion is like make believe for Adults, in this case Santa Clause has all the answers for life's tough questions.  As far as dues go I need your dues to pay my taxes, kinda like the social security pyramid scheme the government pulls. But don't worry you can write them off on next years taxes :)

How many companies can "invest" this way and still stay open ? Social inSecurity is like this , they take 15% of my income (independent contractor) piss some of it away and give the rest to my retired father ......WTF ?

  41. iamihop Yes it's so great to have such a government to save us from ourselves. My father would have never thought to piss away all that social security money so he could depend on me now, and the great thing is the government get's all the credit.  But the goodness of government doesn't stop there, they are printing and borrowing 24-7 to maintain the illusion that this economy is sustainable. Because that's what's important , today's comfort level. Let's face it by the time it has to be paid back most politicians will be dead :) . It has been estimated that government debt and unfunded liabilities (promises) total to about 200 trillion dollars. The great government has spent and is promising to spend more than half a million dollars on everyone in this country, isn't that great !!! And the best thing of all is my kids and grandkids will get the bill.  What would we do without the government to guide our every step.  It was once told to me Jesus was a liberal, but that didn't make any sense. If Jesus was a liberal he would have demanded the government do something about the sin problem and instead of getting into all that trouble, stirring people up, he would have waited for his father to do it for him.  :)

I don't follow your logic that people paying 10% on a pack of gum is larger than people paying a million in tax on a ten million dollar boat, but I wouldn't have a problem with a flat income tax. I guess I assumed you would understand printing money meant printing new money devaluing current stocks not replacing old paper. I do think with our debt at record levels inflation is right around the corner.  I think the Federal Reserve should be audited. They are neither Federal or a Reserve. They are a group of international bankers lending fiat money. Congress needs to be investigated itself before conducting such inquiries.  My friend, it isn't a choice of government or anarchy , both big government and corrupt business needs to be reigned in. At the highest points of corruption I think you will find they are working together against all of us.

  43. iamihop I would believe that we could overcome all our problems but I fear the majority of people are ignorant and like it that way. One of my favorite movies "Idiocracy", mirrors the absurd reality we face. I consider it a future documentary if we continue down this path. If you haven't seen it, I'll bet you will laugh your ass off.

  45. ***** This thread has broken down to people who can't conceive what spacetime is and those who want to argue semantics. I'll play though. If the expanding universe isn't infinite now and time continues forever there is never a point in time you could say it's infinite. If it's expanding,  it hasn't reached infinity and it never will. The same applies to time if we can ever say we have reached forever the statement is a contradiction.

  46. iamihop Do you understand the Michaelson Morley experiment ? It was a well thought out experiment to determine the direction the either was "blowing " . It was a failure and the idea of the either has been abandoned, but many years later when Relativity was discovered and Lorentz Contraction was theorized some scientists looked at the experiment again with space itself in mind and worked the math to find the Special Relativity of the experiment meant the direction though space itself could never be determined by a device even as clever as this one.  To break it down no internal measurements could ever be used to see the geometry of space, your meter stick would just stretch to fit the idea of a meter.

  47. iamihop I know I asked for this when I brought reality into a hypothetical conversation. While it is true Special Relativity measurements will give us no insight into the geometry of space General Relativity already has. I have theorized that "dark matter" and "dark energy" are functions of the mechanics of relativity (spacetime) .  Is there more than one state of an infinite universe hypothetically of course ? I have a problem with an infinity growing, if there is room for growth then it's not infinite in the first place.

  49. iamihop I like the way you are not polarized and blindly accepting this one side or the other position. Some of my strongest belief's have changed over the years. I think most political disagreements stem from what people believe and not what the history and evidence shows. Each generation thinks they are nuanced and different from old fashioned notions and they can overcome the human nature of the past.  I believe in a melting pot too, however what I see is multiculturalism which is the opposite of a melting pot. I have nothing against other cultures but when they stop assimilating and start demanding to be recognized as a group at odds with other Americans I cannot support them. Open borders in a welfare state is national suicide. I believe immigrants should not be a burden on tax payers, they should assimilate while honoring the culture they came from. We both know there are examples of hard working immigrants who have been taken advantage of but there also immigrants who live off of welfare and pass this attitude down to their children. We don't have to be the image of a 1950's nuclear family but everyone pulling their own weight (if they can) and being a net positive to the economy is welcome to any community.  When it comes to government remember it is a group of people who control the rest of the people. They are supposed to be bound by the Constitution so our Freedoms are protected. The Constitution is there to protect us from government and I'm afraid people think it's government that protects their freedom. At this point the government has become so big ,it is in the business of protecting it's own power and we, with our rights, are a threat to their unlimited power.   The alphabet bureaucracies tend to over regulate and complicate. I would have the FDA and EPA as advisory offices to the Congress, there would be no more regulations only Laws created by Congress as the Constitution allows. I know you're a lot younger than me so you wouldn't remember the dirty 70's. People used to toss their trash on the highways and big business polluted without regard to the environment. Pressure was brought to bare and the country really cleaned up it's act. Like any movement it swung hard to the left and production by industry is almost a memory now. I remember working at the local factory building farm equipment to be shipped to China. Hundreds of people worked there, for the last thirty years the rusting old buildings serve as a reminder that we don't manufacture much anymore. The overregulation has chased much of business overseas.  Keep up the independent thinking we need less sheeple in this world.

  50. iamihop Overall I have to tell you the current path we are on is economic destruction. From businesses leaving in droves to entitlements unfunded and deficits with no end. The real question is survival. I like the private solutions better because when business doesn't benefit a community they fail (and they should) , when government fails they raise taxes and grow even bigger.      I just finished my taxes and am sending in around $25,000.00 . I wouldn't have a problem if it was being used responsibly but I know at least half of it is just flushed down the toilet and it makes me want to work less next year. I haven't had a vacation in 10 years and I often work 10 hours a day almost never leaving for lunch. I like work and I'm working to make a better life for my kids and grandkids.  I have friends from the UK, Germany , Cuba and Russia. They all have an appreciation for the US that spoiled entitled citizens don't even realize. My Cuban buddy (he's a citizen now) would be dead from crohn's disease if he had stayed in Cuba (so much for Cuban healthcare). My Russian friend and his family fled Russia because of persecution. My friends in the UK pay about 70% of their income on taxes and government fees to live a very provincial life in a tiny old house.  To sum it up there is no American Dream without economic success, and we are on the road of financial ruin. It may take a number of more years but it is sure on this path.
