Agree. Leave the stuff behind, but grab your pets !!!!

People who survive such close calls, all say that. Interesting. They feel they were saved for a reason. It is part of human nature , trying to understand why they were able to make it to safety as many others did not.

likely many pets were killed and also many people.....all of these over 100 souls, that are missing are likely dead in the debris. Very hard for the families who cannot reach them.

@osopolar2022 well, her dog is her precious little friend and not a damn dog. If these people were pounding on the door, all she could do was report it. You are rude and insensitive. Not much she could have done for the neighbors who likely managed to get out......They were all in the same situation......and they could run for their lives, just as she did, holding her dog. She did the right thing.

When you buy or rent a condo higher than the 7th floor, the firemen cannot reach that far up, so, you are on your own, if you need to evacuate the building. Food for thoughts when going into a high rise hotel.

Often, you do not have time to grab anything and you should not even look. Lucky her dog was close by so she did not have to look for him. She had to get out of there. Stuff that seems important is nothing compared to the life of a pet. It is just stuff.

I have not noticed any psychopath except the guy who called the rescued dog a "damned dog"....that was a psychopath in my view. All other posts are OK.

Does not attract me at all; not since 9/11. I like the proximity of the ground, for my personal living space , with a yard, a garden.....flowers, in essence, my sanctuary. Can't have that when you live in cement places.

Well, it seems like people were like sardines......5 people in one unit. How many bedrooms? . Only in America ? not really but maybe only in Miami. In some Chinese cities, many people live in closets.......So, the "search and rescue" are looking for families......That lady and her dog were alone in her apartment, while neighbors may have had many kids......We heard many people who lived there were "snowbirds" so they likely would have been a couple, alone or maybe with visiting friends or family. Well, it is all very tragic.......we probably will never know about these poor souls, who died that night.

yes and he was totally OK. No visible injuries. Poor kid. He will have PTSD for sure.

Papers, ID etc ; is just stuff and replaceable......not a big deal. The dog is important. He is a family member. That is how many animal owners see their pets. They are family and we save them !

It does to me.

not so sure about that. She will eventually get some ID papers as she is a documented survivor of that collapse, so people will take that in consideration. Her word should be good enough to get anything she needs.

Maybe there was some disturbance in the ground. These activities are monitored constantly as we hear about various types of seismic events. Many are barely noticeable but some are perceived by ordinary people. I wonder if the sensors that pick up these events, noticed anything in Miami. A small shake could have triggered that collapse. That would be an act of God and certainly benefit the investors in that group.

There may not have been many as we hear, the building had a no pet policy. That lady who saved her dog, was likely blessed to have a therapy dog as by Law, they go wherever she goes....The doggy was right there by her so she could grab him and run out, hanging on to him while she jumped over cars.......she was running for her life , with her best friend. Very touchy.

Someone said there was a no pet policy so, there would have been few animals or maybe only an isolated therapy dog who may have died with its owner. They always stay close to each other.
