It should be. There should be NO taxation without representation.

No. There's no minimum size requirement to the federal district, so it could just encompass the Capitol, National Mall, and White House.

Taxation without representation is not justifiable. Besides, the Capitol, White House, and National Mall would not be a part of the proposed state. It would still be in the federal district.
2
It wouldn't. There's no minimum size requirement for the federal district, so just make the Capitol, White House, and National Mall as the federal district and the rest as a state.

Their reason is because it would give Democrats additional seats in Congress.

@mbgal7758 I saw this article, so they'll come up with literally any reason to hide the actual reason. https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/government-and-politics/6856466-SDs-state-senate-committee-opposed-to-DC-statehood-says-the-city-too-small

Taxation without representation is WRONG. It needs to be a state.

@aliamjon2550 It’s a legit reason to grant them statehood. They have NO voting representation in Congress, so they have no say as to how much their federal taxes are or where their tax dollars are going.
1
@aliamjon2550 That doesn’t justify not having representation in Congress. They’re taxed, but they have no voting representation in Congress. I can’t justify taxation without representation. It’s wrong.
1
@aliamjon2550 Less isn’t okay. There should be NO taxation without representation. No taxation without representation is the very issue this country was founded on. They need representation in Congress, not just for president and at the local level.
1
@aliamjon2550 Would you like to be taxed and yet have ZERO say as to how much of your income you have to pay in taxes or where your taxes go? I don’t think so. We fought a war over this issue, and it’s not right to have taxation without representation.

Taxation without representation is why I believe that they need statehood, and the bill to make DC a state keeps the federal district but shrinks it so that it only encompasses the Capitol, White House, and National Mall. I would favor DC statehood even if it was solid Republican because I cannot justify taxation without representation.

The bill to create DC statehood would still leave the federal government in a federal district as the proposal shrinks the district to only include the Capitol, White House, and National Mall, so even if DC became a state, the federal government wouldn't operate in any state. Second, many people have lived in DC for their entire lives, and they may like it there, but that doesn't mean that they should have to move to get the representation that they deserve. I cannot defend taxation without representation as that was the very issue that the country was founded on.
