PDCs should focus more on the real-world practical application and implementation of design, math used in civil engineering/hydrology, use of drafting/mapping software, surveying, etc.. and focus less on the abstract and ideological. My PDC felt more like an elaboration on Intro to Permaculture principles and ethics with extra examples of other peoples designs, most of which were inapplicable to my climate and terrain… we did some very primitive surveying/mapping, but I would have liked to at least learn to use a laser level instead of fumbling around with an A-frame, which makes zero sense on nearly flat terrain in 2022. Also need to teach the drawbacks of some of the highly-promoted permaculture solutions… for example, using chop and drop/course mulch in the veggie garden in a wet climate can lead to insane slug and snail infestations.. had to learn that one the hard way after years of failure. I kept thinking “one day the predator bugs will come” LOL!
