  1. they need people to believe that their wealth was earned through some higher level of intelligence and merit.. its about creating the illusion that they somehow deserve to be this much richer than you… that if only you weren’t so dumb maybe you would be filthy rich too.. the peasants are less likely to revolt if they think that their poverty is a result of their own shortcomings
