I think it's a combination of lethargy and constantly having the hope beat out of you, which are probably connected. The blacks who were freed and allowed into society thrived, often times even surpassing their white counterparts. But these attempts at liberation were almost always thwarted by collective racism. And over hundreds of years, that has an effect. Black immigrants who come to America thrive, but black Americans seem stagnant. One must ask why. It's true that life is what you make of it, but the past also affects the present. Until you acknowledge that the government of this country SYSTEMATICALLY broke down the black household and black economy for centuries, and that America is not 100% free of this disease today, you will never truly understand why things are the way they are. It can't all be filed under "laziness and victimhood". When you hear police officers say, "I'm gonna kill as many as I can", it can have an affect on your mind and how you view and maneuver through the world. Please keep this in mind. And with all due respect, I think this is a conversation for black people only....
