As an Ethiopian, a sea outlet is a massive issue for us, but we're tired of wars, and most importantly Eritreans are our siblings we don't want to fight Literally any foreigner would struggle to differentiate between an Ethiopian and Eritrean cultures, because we're basically the same nation, different nationalities And more than my fear for ourselves, I fear for Eritreans because their leader would conscript all the population, the Eritrean dictator will force his 5 million people to throw themselves into war, which would lead to the greatest humanitarian catastrophe and probably the bloodiest in the 21st century (which means that Ethiopia will break its own record)

@notfunny3397 honestly, Eritreans don't get the Ethiopian nationality, but get residence in Ethiopia. Ethiopians can't get a residence or nationality in Eritrea, that's if they survived at all That's because Ethiopians believe Ethiopia is home for Eritreans, but being a citizen is a political matter. Only if Ethiopia and Eritrea unite would every Eritrean get the Ethiopian nationality and Eritreans would get integrated into the parliament, and basically they'll be Ethiopians in a federal system Edit: I'm surprised that Ethiopia is politically doing what South Koreans do, especially since Ethiopia fought against north Korea with south korea

@hiroshigozhaimashda9304 Abiy is not Muslim, he's a protestant Christian, his party is called "Prosperity Party" He's from a Muslim Oromo father and Orthodox Amhara mother, and he's a protestant, his wife is an orthodox Christian from Gondar, Amhara too, what a confusing diversity! I wonder what his children would consider themselves. Such a relationship causes irreligious children most of the time

@yesyes3010 the only way for peace with a united Ethiopia and Eritrea is by dividing Eritrea into two (afar regions of both nations to unite (as afars want) and Eritrean tigre to be one region) and both Eritreans would be in the federal system of Ethiopia, and would get some more autonomy. Lastly, the government should make new social ties and revive the old socio-economic ties between Eritreans and Ethiopians, like the past, we must make intermarriages, Eritreans should come to Addis Ababa, 2 railway lines to be built, electricity from windy Eritrea and water from the water rich Ethiopia should be connected, agricultural products be taken to Eritrea and international trade coming from them, etc... just like before, if not more I believe only then it would be sustainable, especially since Eritreans are sick of their leader

@NickV-ez4be logistical? You're talking about the slave army of Eritrea, they'll be forced to march on foot, only weapons and critical supplies would arrive with vehicles

@MrLoube idk, I think Ethiopia doesn't have enough money for this, and neighboring nations will probably not agree for few billions. I also thought of it, but the Ethiopian government might not thought of it, or they did but want a historic legacy for them in the future, a legacy of military success And most importantly, the aim might not be a sea outlet, but the reunification of Eritrea and Ethiopia

@MrLoube I know, but how do we know the intentions of the government? I don't trust our government either Perhaps the Ethiopian PM read the book "Art of War" and is trying to distract us with this for another goal, political or economic one, we never know. Anyway, I hope things cool down soon

@atintripathi5948 it depends on who you ask Those who want the imperial rule are the Orthodox Church Central Authority (but not the common Orthodox)(to restore their lost feudal lands) and Amharas (to restore their ethno-religious supremacy). As a non Amhara Muslim, that system was the worse for us, even the communist government, even though killing many Ethiopians in masses, gave us more equality than the emperor did. So, I would never wish his return, but some definitely do

Anyway, this argument has no end, and it's better to stop here, we Ethiopians don't want any war with Eritrea or any other country, we didn't make a referendum for, and it's not proven that we'll have a war, this is just a rumor we don't know its end. @MastemaJack the British empire was a more tolerant colonizer, that ruled indirectly, which left alot of government jobs free to not anger the populace, while France used the direct rule system that forced the local people to speak French in an effort to assimilate them into the French culture, this French system was also called "Assimilation Policy", that was based on French cultural supremacy. Because Britain won there is french and English, if the French won, there would've been only French. I know that from the many historical patterns I learned

@NoName-hg6cc you still don't understand, the English were the best colonizers in Europe, that doesn't mean they were good in any means, but the fact that England had a smaller army than most of the world, forced England to make some concessions to not trigger large organized rebellions, especially after they learned from their mistakes in America

In the 19th century, Eritrea was supposed to be given back to Ethiopia after Egypt lost its war on Ethiopia, but the British immediately invited Italy into Eritrea, which made Eritrea an Italian colony for 66 years, separated from the independent state of Ethiopia

@sarahjeannexd the TPLF still isn't fully disarmed, and Amharas are really pissed off by it. Eritrea still didn't leave the border lands, and Tigrans are really pissed off by it. Abiy made everyone mad this way, he tried to hit all birds with one stone And yes, giving the borderlands back to Eritrea is part of the peace process with Eritrea, and I believe peace is more valuable than some desert acres of land But there's nothing as "port for dam" or anything like that, the Eritrean government doesn't care about its people getting cheap or abundant electricity or water anyway If Eritrea left the disputed areas, and gave access to the sea, there would be not only peace and trade prosperity, but also there would be only little left for potential economic reunification.

@vonelgamer3071 I believe Eritreans are Ethiopians, as long as they control their own lands, then it's still in the hands of Ethiopians, not foreigners. So why should we spill blood? Eritreans not obeying our government doesn't mean they're not Ethiopians, they are Ethiopians whether they liked it or not, it's in their bloods. You say "your ancestors," and since my ancestors were, by today's definition, Ethiopians and Eritreans (since we were the same people), then my cousins are the one ruling Eritrea and that shouldn't bother me. I wish our reunification comes back at the lowest cost possible, or at least have their repressive elites and government removed

No one would be happy to see himself being a citizen of Ethiopia today and of Eritrea another day. Eritrea is a nightmare, it's even called the north korea of Africa, all the Eritreans you see on the internet are those living abroad, there's no freedom of internet there, who'd want his property suddenly transferred to Eritrea?
