  1. In the deserts of the American Southwest, it is not unusual to find abandoned cars and other vehicles. Stolen vehicles get dumped, as well as vehicles that people claim are stolen so they can collect the insurance on them. Frequently,, these vehicles are vandalized by using them as targets, setting them on fire, or a "hangout" for people. There is no way to know how long that vehicle's been parked there so desert winds and what rainfall occurs in the desert would long ago have eradicated any tire marks or footprints.
