Parents! You have the RIGHT:
1. To review all materials your state is about to adopt BEFORE they are adopted.
2. To sit in on classes and observe teachers.
3. To move your child into a different classroom.
4. To object to ANY materials and offer alteratives. (For instance, swap out Harry Potter, recreational reading, for a classical work, scholarly reading).
5. To go to the state website for curriculum and standards and look up your child's grade level requirements.
6. To peruse the recommended reading list online for your child's grade level.
7. To go to the federal government's education website to ensure your state, county, and local schools' policies, procedures, educational practices, etc., are in line with the U. S. Department of Education.
8. To attend school board meetings and address the board.
9. To request SSTs and/or FSTs as well as IEPs to meet your child's needs.
10. To be apprised of ANY event in advance. Without your signature, your child cannot participate.
11. To have materials available to you IN YOUR LANGUAGE if English is not your primary language.
