  2.  @tommy2u  Really? My grandfather was a coal miner. His only surviving son was supposed to go to law school. But my grandfather died when my father was in 10th grade, and he had to quit school to support his mother and sisters. Then WW II broke out, and my father did his duty by his country. After the war, he became a carpenter and the family hopes for a college education fell on me, his oldest child. My father, a TRADESMAN assisted me in paying for college. I had scholarships, grants, loans, and help from Daddy. Oh, and I worked summers. I earned a mechanical engineering degree and I paid back my student loans. My debt to my beloved father can NEVER be repaid, because his support wasn't just financial. He was my hero.

  3.  @nspgreen  My out of high school jobs paid 75 cents and 85 cents an hour. I worked two jobs and had enough to pay for 1 college quarter. No books, no lab fees, nothing else. My last job before retiring paid $140k per annum. Without that college degree, it would never have happened.
