Larry Yockey--Those of us who ARE military and former military know full well that objections or sensitive information is NEVER put out on unsecure channels, nor is the chain of command EVER to be ignored. He chose to use public channels and ignored his superior officers. Therefore, he was relieved of his command.

Rick x--NO. He did not use a secure channel, nor did he address the issue with his chain of command which even an E-1 in boot camp knows better than to ignore.

Fox needs to get its story straight. This Captain wasn't relieved because he alerted about a corona virus outbreak. He was relieved because, in this time of extra security with regards our military, HE DID NOT USE THE CHAIN OF COMMAND, NOR DID HE USE SECURE CHANNELS. THAT's why. And he SHOULD have been relieved for that. He was NOT asked to resign his commission (yet), but his military career is over. As is written in The Right Stuff...it can blow at any seam.

@JohnSmith-ns4gt --One Captain has been relieved of his command. There are hundreds down the pipeline just waiting to take his place.

@lawoman608 --That' s NOT how it works. Those of us who are Navy veterans know full well that neither officers nor enlisted are set up to fail. If your career is stalled or if you have poor performance evaluations, you'll get crappy duty and it's be your choice to redeem yourself or wait out your enlistment/retire/COG out. (Convenience of the Government discharge for enlisted).

@alirenfro2526 --Our enemies have pretty good intelligence on our ships (as we have on theirs). Before I joined the US Navy, I took a tourist boat tour around where the USS Enterprise was moored. The tour guide told us then (1977) that, if war were declared, the Enterprise had about a 28 minute life-span before an enemy missile (Russian at the time) could be lobbed at her and blow her out of the water.

@P. Spit--Don't be absurd. No military officer is going to allow an entire crew be infected by ANYTHING. Have you ANY idea how accountable a Captain is for the operation of the vessel assigned to his charge?? You can't or you wouldn't have made such an ill-advised statement. US Navy ships are operating at readiness unless in dry dock for repairs. The fact is that this officer did NOT use the chain of command nor did he use secure military channels to notify his superiors. He's lucky he wasn't asked to resign his commission or be put up for court martial.

@Ms.Byrd68 --Take up your "fears" with your local Congressman. This isn't the place.
1
@lawoman608 --By your own words, you have no idea what you're talking about. US Navy regulations are CLEAR on chain of command. This man was a LINE OFFICER in command of a carrier...that means he is a graduate of Annapolis and, as such, is well-taught on how the US Navy works. Since you know nothing about it, I recommend you keep your ill-adivised and ill-educated comments to yourself.
1
@Ms.Byrd68 --I DO have the right to "dictate" to you when you're so obviously oblivious to how the US Constitution works. You have a problem with this? TAKE IT UP WITH YOUR CONGRESSMAN. The only thing such drivel as you have posted does is stir up the masses who are every bit as ill-educated as YOU are. Now, go online, find out who your Congressman and your Senators are, and start writing to them. Otherwise, you're p*ssing in the wind. IGNORING YOU NOW.

ed low--THANK YOU. I am getting fed up with the constant media harping over and over again as if there is no other news. It seems today that, if information (news) doesn't fit the corporation's (in this case, Fox's) agenda, they just make it up as they go and keep the public in a hissy fit of worry and upheaval that is DIRECTLY resulting in the food and supply shortages.

@kathycurtis6359 --His responsibility is to the MISSION. Every single military member knows that they are expendable insofar as the mission is concerned. You CLEARLY have not spent one nanosecond in the service of your country or you would KNOW that even the lowliest enlisted baby bootie in boot camp knows what the chain of command is and that NO military transmissions are EVER made outside of secure channels. He was NOT brave--and certainly not HONORABLE. He was foolish and stupid and, as an Annapolis graduate (a line officer, NOT a staff officer), he should have known and behaved differently.

@kathycurtis6359 --Your statement tells all that you have NO CLUE what you're talking about. So, your attempt to denigrate someone who HAS served the nation in the US Navy is risible. Run along, little snarker. YOU are being IGNORED.
