I lived in the high desert of California for about 10 years. You cannot imagine the beauty of it, the wide open spaces surrounded by mountain ranges that block most weather fronts from penetrating the vastness. There are white light mornings and vanilla sunsets, contrasted with other days of sunrises and sunsets painted from a vivid palette of colors. The heat of Summer contrasts with the wind and sometimes biting cold of Winter, which is followed by a brief but spectacular explosion of colors heralding Spring. Even autumn has its own loveliness, but do not expect the fall foliage of the East Coast. There is little humidity in the desert and even less rainfall. However, the late summer thunderstorms with their flashes of lightning streaking through black low-hanging clouds and followed by sometimes triple full bow rainbows can leave you mute with wonder. I miss living there, so very much.

@chodeshadar18 --I haven't forgotten them. When I first moved to the high desert, they sky was awash with stars. By the time I moved elsewhere, one had to drive about 50 miles or so toward Amboy to see them. The city lights of San Bernardino and Palm Springs area had washed most of them out. But I remember in the early 1980s that, on the nights of a full moon, one could drive through the desert without headlights on and have no difficulty seeing and being seen. I miss it.

@NautilusGuitars ---Thank you for the kind words. Snarkers and bots abound on YouTube. They mean NOTHING in the grand scheme of things and certainly mean NOTHING to me. Their witless words won't change my opinions and they certainly won't stop me from posting where I choose. The desert has a beauty beyond compare. I've lived in several places in the USA; I've traveled to almost every state and a few foreign countries. There are so many places that are beautiful--each in its own way. One of my dearest college friends was a Native American who had been raised in the desert. She never got her degree, but she sat next to me in one of the college classes and I would hear a sharp intake of breath from her. Then she would describe to me the sunset or the cloud patterns or the contrast of sand and sky and I would see the desert through her eyes and not just my own. Wherever she is today, I think of her often and hope she is well and happy.

@BrookeBaubles --I'm sorry that you can't see the innate beauty of the CA high desert. Not everyone feels that every place should be LA, NYC, or Vegas.

@BrookeBaubles --You sound really immature. If you read bitterness into a reply, that says sooo much more about you than it does me. You are aware, of course, about assuming things about others, right? POOR YOU.

@BrookeBaubles --As if your opinion matters one whit to me or my life. And, given your propensity for snarking over and over, I'd say YOU'RE the one whose bitter. It's called transference.

There is a book about the Vatican's secret archives, where untold numbers of ancient documents are moldering away, as there aren't enough workers to keep them in good order/save them. As I read this book, I began to wonder just how much of that pile might be ancient Roman records. After all, the ancient Romans kept careful records and the emerging Roman Catholic church modeled itself and its hierarchy on paternalistic, record-keeping Rome.

Brooke--Well, you've proven that you are easily amused. IGNORING you now. No further comment will be acknowledged or given a response. Babble to yourself for the rest of time. I shall neither know nor care.

@VickieV1333 --The desert is lovely. Stark, harsh, unforgiving, and magnificently lovely.
