  1. Di--You'd think that the ballet companies would host them to at least a matinee, wouldn't you? A theater once sent fourth row seats to a barrio 8th grade class I was teaching at the time. The company put on Giselle for them. They were transfixed, awed, and, afterward, incredibly enthusiastic about ballet. Prior to the show, they thought ballet was for "sissies"; afterward, they wanted to take classes.

  2. Making pointe shoes is art as well as skill. When these dedicated souls retire, who will replace them? When pointe shoe manufacturing companies shut down, who will make quality shoes for the danseurs and danseuses?
