On wikipedia you have a special page called "Government Spending" and a very interesting chart with 2011 stats for govt spending % of GDP: CDA & Estonia 40%, AUS 34%, USA 39%, GER 44%, GR 47%, Iceland 58%, FR 53%, Nordics 50%+, IT 49%, POR 46%, UK 47%, IRE 42%, SP 41%, etc. True facts, yes?

"subsidize the poor" So somebody who is not (at least YET) in the poor category has to pay a) for him/herself (and family) and that includes the fuel surcharge added onto the products' prices AND b) for those that cannot afford the price increase due to the fuel surcharge, right? Let's see if you're smart, who said the following famous quote: "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs"? Not everybody subscribes to THAT "particular" economical system, my friend.

"EU does not have dept, member states have" But Euronews is paid by EU taxpayers therefore IMO each EU taxpayer should see whatever is discussed on their local media on Euronews as well, for instance why Estonia has no debt problems (vis-a-vis its GDP) but GR, SP, IT, FR, Portugal, IRE, etc. DO have HUGE debt problems, so show the facts (money-wise of course) of why Estonia does not need austerity measures, make the case why Estonia should be the model for EU and not GR, IT, FR, SP, IRE, etc.

I was talking about discussion, debate, commentary, analysis of universal healthcare, free education, high salaries and large pensions for public sector AND union workers, early retirement, govt "investments" in green companies and public transportation, etc. ON TV, TV media (local and/or national) is where ppl tune in on a daily basis (unless you have no TV and/or live in a taliban cave), post a Euronews link where they discuss the cost (money-wise) of ANY of the social programs of the above!!!

"your words not mine" AS LONG AS YOU, THE GOVT, DO NOT OVERSPEND, I reluctantly agree with even 40% (out of GDP) spending for such social programs but what's OVER 40% MUST BE CUT, and only for that reason 90% of W EU would be against me. Personally my limit for such spending is 35%, 35-40% I tolerate, over 40%: UNACCEPTABLE. What's in W EU is NOT communism, it's SOCIALISM. In Ontario (provinces are in charge with social programs) there are strict work requirements for welfare recipients.

Buddy, it's about the level of govt spending on such large welfare and social programs. Nobody is against them, not even the most hardcore conservatives like myself, the issue is how much govt involvement aka spending for such programs, capisce? Socialism starts at ~50% govt spending out of GDP. France in '10, under Sarkozy, spent almost 60% out of its GDP for these large social programs, and 60% was not enough, French ppl elected a TRUE SOCIALIST who wants to spend even more on social programs!

Regardless, I have not seen one video where EU's total debt is discussed, how much those large social programs really cost, why gasoline so expensive in EU, etc.

Continued... "Fuel is taxed highly to cut down usage or make people use it more efficiently" You mean making ppl on fixed income to pay more on food and everything else they buy in a store? Everything you buy in ANY store is delivered by TRUCK only, trucks run on FUEL (mostly diesel), you make fuel more expensive, they pass the fuel surcharge onto the stores and stores add the surcharge to ALL products they sell. You don't have to own/drive a car to pay more on ANYTHING you need in life.

"Euronews is public broadcast" TRUE, paid by EU taxpayers thru state taxes. "things that happen more on the EU level" I don't think so, I've seen TONS of videos about GR, IT, SP, UK, Portugal, etc., in none of those videos they talk about EU's policies but EU members' own policies. I know very well about Estonia which is one of the BEST (financially) managed countries in whole EU, but 1) a very small country, 2) Euronews does not like it, too... capitalistic, so never mention it at all.
