  1. In US (same in Canada) a libertarian is always socially liberal, fiscally conservative plus anti-war. A liberal is always socially liberal, overwhelmingly pro-big govt & high taxes and always anti-war. A conservative is always socially conservative (pro-traditional marriage & pro-life), always fiscally conservative, never believes in man-made global warming and always pro-military/war. Etc. of course. Extremely easy to profile a politician as a liberal, conservative or libertarian.

  3. Thank you for the reply. "so the Senate cannot have a PM" I meant Italy's PM or these parliamentary elections did not decide the new PM as is always the case with federal elections in Canada? "This guy would be a leftist, but is fiscally conservative" You mean socially liberal but fiscally conservative like most if not all Ron Paul supporters? In our terminology a socially liberal LIBERTARIAN? If that's the case, he's way closer to the liberals than conservatives.

  6. 2 major parties in USA and 3 in CDA and that's enough IMO. Of course dozens of minuscule ones like Green Party or Marijuana Party or even Communist Party, none of them electing any of them to Congress or Parliament, Green Party has got 1 member in CDA's Parliament, its leader, a woman. It's true that you have ZERO chance to get elected if you belong to a party other than the major ones, Ron Paul in the States has always been a libertarian but b/c no such major party he decided to stay with Reps.
