Easter (resurrection of Jesus) AND Christmas (birth of Baby Jesus) are both very religious celebrations, the fact ppl do not follow the exact meaning of Easter & Christmas, that's another issue and nobody, NO govt should force you to strictly observe these religious moments BUT in the same time everybody (especially the anti-religion ppl) should acknowledge that when you stay home for Good Friday and Easter Monday and Christmas, either a Friday and a Monday, you still get paid b/c of... JESUS.

Continued... Back to Germany and Freedom OF/FROM Religion, and I'm talking about German Govt here, I don't know how many Germans know that homeschooling is ILLEGAL in Germany, you MUST send your kids to govt-subsidized public schools only, homeschooling fully allowed and greatly protected by law in Canada & USA. There is now a case in the States, widely shown on Fox News, a German family with 4 kids that fled Germany couple of years ago and already received political asylum on religious grounds.

"Never thought of it that way before" There is just one TRUE & UNDISPUTED meaning of Easter & Christmas, both religious moments strictly related to the birth and then death (resurrection) of Jesus Christ. And when employed (on the payroll) ppl stay home for Easter and Christmas AND get paid for doing nothing it's simply b/c of Jesus Christ, like it or not, right? Never heard of atheists complaining about getting paid for staying home on a Friday and/or Monday in the name of... Jesus, right? LOL

For Germans: I'm for a new law that will have you sign a special card called "FREEDOM FROM RELIGION" card that you will have to show it to your employer when you get hired, that card will allow you by law to dance 365 days a year anywhere in Germany BUT you wont get paid for the Easter AND Christmas days-off, both religious holidays, right? So you get the "Freedom FROM Religion" Card, free to dance anytime you want BUT no money for you when you stay home for Easter AND Christmas holidays. Deal?

"both employer and employee make contracts to fit their needs without too much government interference" Yes, but those employment laws (stay home for Good Friday, Easter and Christmas AND get paid) were implemented 50-100 years ago when none freedom FROM religion (aka atheist) movement, nowadays everybody goes against religion (Christianity only), no problem with that, but none of those for freedom FROM religion demand to rewrite the employment laws vis-à-vis Easter and Christmas, right?

Please see my proposal for fixing this issue once it for all. My proposal, a kind of 'take or leave it', covers the entire work force, govt AND private businesses, and it applies to college and university students as well, the card MUST be presented at the moment you apply for work and will be the only national card that will allow you to enjoy your free time in any way you want BUT you wont get paid for all Easter AND Christmas holidays as long as that card shows up in your employment record.

"I agree with you pointing out the potential hypocrisy though" Exactly, that's the message I was trying to send across: HYPOCRISY. BTW, my comment was in no way personally addressed to YOU. "I kind of like it freedom from religion - it includes all religions right?" Absolutely BUT can you FORCE muslims to work on Fridays OR they wont get paid at all for the days-off they take to attend (every) Friday trip to their local mosque? They will sue you for that if not even KILL in name of damn Allah.
