...continued NYC/NJ area very rarely gets hit by very strong hurricanes, therefore nobody (residential or business owners) has bothered to get hurricane insurance, VERY EXPENIVE such hurricane ins, also for major flooding, ins comp offer ins against ordinary flooding (most of the ppl have that) but not against hurricane flooding, and IF they offer such hurricane ins is extremely expensive therefore nobody is gonna get one when no history of such natural disaster in your area. Until now, I guess.

B/C you had a different opinion, one NOT anti-American, your comment got judged as spam, why? Euronews is a left-wing liberal TV network therefore most of their viewers simply hate America no matter what. Stay safe out there and thank you very much for your support.

Glad that FINALLY somebody (a good Greek I might ad) asked a very interesting Q. ALL houses in USA & CDA are built on wood and then they covered them in a special material that gives you the impression the house is built on bricks. Wood is cheaper than brick when you order the material AND it takes shorter time to build the house on wood than bricks, so the total cost of building a house is lower when using wood than bricks, concrete cement is used only btwn floors if house has got floors.

GREAT point but I doubt you'll ever gonna get a reply to your comment, right? From Wikipedia & '2009 L'Aquila earthquake': "Poor building standards or construction materials seem to have further contributed to the large number of victims.", "While most of l'Aquila's medieval structures suffered damage, many of its modern buildings suffered the greatest damage", "L'Aquila Hospital's new wing, which opened in 2000, suffered extensive damage and had to be closed". Any EUviewer who likes to respond?

This New Orleans? /watch?v=YvRu8OuLt3A "Or are they already been constructed and people just buy them?" YES, that's the way how is done in USA & CDA. Less than 0.1% of ppl built their houses on their own with their own money. "And still don't understand why the US government hasn't changed the safety standards." I don't think it's the FEDERAL govt in charge with such issues, state govts have their own laws, rules, regulations, ins policies included, and 50 different states in entire USA, right?
