The lengths people will go to in order to not see the obvious. It goes beyond wilful ignorance into deliberate denial. I’ve avoided commenting on anything relating to President Musk and VP Trump till now. I think the best approach with these “patriotic” types is to say, “Sure, ok, go for it. You have the office and both houses. Whatever you think, have at it - the next four years are on you.” They’re like trees voting for axes.

People who feel the need to highlight their “intelligence” tend to be…how to put this kindly…a big ol’ basket of bonkers.

When people look at 1930s Germany and ask, "How were the Nazis allowed to..." - this is how it starts. Humans don't change much in terms of their psychology; we all live in a bubble of "nothing bad will happen to us" and think disasters rise out of thin air. They don't. They begin quietly - almost laughably - and before you know it, we're living in "unimaginable times." Read Benjamin Carter's book, The Death of Democracy, which is one of the best books exploring Hitler's rise to power. There are terrifying parallels of today's politics. We take peace and democracy and stability for granted at our peril, and yes our systems are far from perfect. But in the coming months and years, we might find ourselves in a position where we're praying to have things back as they were.

Just jumping on to make sure random YouTube commenters offer their opinion about not giving a toss about Stephen Fry's opinion. As for "Who cares?" - probably people who admire him or find interest in his views, in large part due to his fame and notability, both of which random YouTubers lack.
