  1. I'm a cooperate java dev. I spend on avrg 10h coding per day on a 2019 i7 mbp fully specd. And I hate the machine. It is sloppy and the constant fan noise is killing me. I"m always listening on headphones to pink noise or nature sound just to mask the fan noise. Can't wait to get rif of it. my dream setup would be Arch on M1 hardware😊 The tools i|m using: Intellij, docker, minikube, microservices and a fat monolith.. databases.. 100 tabs on stackoverflow and Ableton live because I like to making music too. The monolith I'm working on is fairly large. Compiling takes 15min... starting the app another 12. But CPUs requirements are still moderate what counts more : CPU single core speed, fast SSDs, fast 32 GB RAM and CPU caches. If you're not into machine learning and Cuda, then know that other factors are more important than pure number of cores. C++ code might be different though because the compiler can parallelize the build depending on how your project build is setup.
