  1. Before applying for EU membership East Europe needs to under go its own Vergangenheitsbewaeltigung. Half the Ukraine is reminiscent of fascist leaders, Poland und Hungary are drowning in Antisemitism, Xenophobia, Sexism and Homophobia. The entire Balkan is a screwed up mess (as always). Unresolved historic tensions everywhere. The EU can't afford to repeat the same mistakes, Poland and Hungary are enough already.
