AI is not an acting agent here. The ones replacing people is not AI, but people of the owning class. For them, AI looks like every other tool for turning money into more money. But even if the owning class is not specifically targeting working-class coders, it's the millions of middle-class office jobs that they are after. This is where the money is. However, if millions of people are going to be made disposable in every industrialized country, including India, how well will the rest of the economy do? People without jobs are generally bad customers. Of course, this is going to affect demand for coders and lower their salaries. I'm not saying this is going to happen soon, but don't think for a second that this isn't going to happen once the tech stack is ready. And the owning class is pouring tons of money into this project as we speak. The clock is definitely ticking.
