  1. Also worth noting is that how difficult it is to create new housing in Berlin. Some requests to build have taken 30 years before being granted by the Berlin city bureaucracy. But it's not only about the overly complicated bureaucracy (German bureaucracy is already a sad reality). I assume many involved in that process are also benefiting from raising prices as they themselves are property owners particularly in the higher City echelon. There's also push back from those who are opposed to building high rises as that would also decrease the value of their property. Overall there are very influential forces at play, silently acting behind the scenes. While the vast majority of Germans are renters (consequence of WW2) the situation won't be solved by simply demanding more affordable housing. Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

  4. +Eternal Apostate It's all history, during the cold war, Algeria, then backed by the udssr, wanted to extent its territories to the Atlantic shore line, mainly for shipping off gas and oil and for geostrategic reasons. The USA, who were supporting the Moroccan monarchy, wouldn't allow this at any cost. So the situation today is the result of that proxy war. The other reason of course is Bou Craa. It has the world largest phosphate mines. The land may seem uninhabitable from far but it's actually worth billions. After the Spaniards left the Sahara there were only 2 outcomes, either the US (Morocco) got hold of the Western Sahara or Russia (Algeria) did. There has never been a realistic option for an independent Sahrawi state. They are just being played. And even here in this video Vice itselve plays its part in an ongoing media battle between Algeria and Morocco. Dat ass though! :)

  15. There is no "FREE" market. The so called free market market will monopolize what ever it gets under its control in a micro second. This is the only way to maximise money extraction... They'll turn drinking water into an exclusive commodity... got a problem paying the water bill, try rain water. Oh wait, rain water is already rife with toxic chemicals thanks to the free market... how about prostituting your self on onlyFans or auction away your kids to the rich... so many options... but none of them feels like freedom.
