@HealthyDev Your perspective seems a little bit idealistic. As programmers, we look at systems as objectivly as possible. The existence of managers everywhere already shows that there's a systemic momentum of mistrust: managers serve the interests of the employer, those interests are at odds with the subordinates at a fundamental level. It's not a question of whether someone's boss or manager is likeable or a total deckhead. Sure, I can play "nice" in daily interactions with them, but I also understand what they are doing and why, there would be no need for managers otherwise. Mistrust is therefor mutual, based on system specs :)

Managers represent the business owners. Generally speaking, owners distrust workers due to the inherently opposing interests of these two groups (less pay for more work vs. less work for more pay), hence why they employ managers. So it's not just programmers they won't trust, it's workers in general.
