  1.  @stargazer8085  But understand that countries in Africa (South and North) have on average a much younger population compared to aging Europe, also reports and death registration are non existent in the majority of those countries. Not mentioning lack of genome sequencing. So we might have experienced wave after wave. Without proper testing facilities one can only guess. And particularly in the South African regions the spread of HIV is so rampant, to think that people there have some evolutionary advantage could be quite misleading. The sad truth could be that people die much younger due to various other virus infections and complications.

  2. No, there is no law in nature that dictates that virus mutations must get less dangerous over time. The thing we know is that the spike protein can't mutate endlessly. It still has to remain compatible with the host's immune system. If a virus "over-mutates" it simply won't re-produce and die. So the number of possible mutations is hopefully limited. That could be the good part. But wait and see what nature comes up with...
