I'm a simple leftist. The aim of the left should be to actually help the people in need, without having them beg for it, without denying them on a technicality, without huge distribution costs. UBI does all of that. If you peeps don't elect Yang president, us Euros would love to import him. And if you do elect him, we will end up in a situation where we are outflanked on the left and on the libertarian side by the US at the same time XD. Can't have that... don't elect him and send him our way you selfish pricks :D.

@germancarrasco2028 "It's OK, he has the establishment on his side."... Money in the hands of people... that is the objective... not flowery bollocks. Not a billion programs hosted from a million buildings populated by people doing the fake but costly job of denying people money. Efficience and actually helping the poor and struggling. That is the objective of the real left... not being smug and in the way of helping people.

I think Marx was focused on the coming decades not the far future as he was wise enough to know the further you look, the harder it is to foresee anything.

@jeremiemarion3966 "Oh and in addition Andrew Yang is right on the fact that JOBS will disappear which is true, but WORK won't."... that's a pretty beautiful sentence. :). Not a support of everything you said as I don't like those categories of pay. I'm more about providing a minimum guaranteed and have people work their way from there or even slack if that's their wish. Just my opinion. As far as the society organizing itself, if that would be the direction, I think it should be about the basics... the society working together to provide the basics and the rest of the time, people could slack or work at becoming rich if they wanted... the beauty of that is that that organization could provide the steps towards direct democracy. But I would go step by step here... first, UBI and see where that gets us. I'm not particularly annoyed at someone having a Lamborghini... as long as the rest is fed, has a decent roof, healthcare and a fighting chance from the get go to get somewhere.

He might actually unite the US... if you don't elect him, us Euros will gladly import him.

I am anti-monopolies but if you fraction Facebook etc, all you will end up is with another monopoly from elsewhere taking their spot. Yang needs their money to finance UBI. He's probably more in line with the EU where monopolies are heavily monitored and fined massively when they behave poorly.

@jeremiemarion3966 wasn't from you but was worth spreading as you did :). I agree that vested interest have dug so deep into the current systems that we need to dislodge them from there before real progress can be made and yah, the US public is largely for single payer healthcare and still, special interests get their way. Btw, je vis en Belgique ^^. I'm all for the people trying to write better rules as encroached interests seldom do. Bonne journée ^^.

@YourMajesty143 1000 per month per 18+ is plenty considering that it comes with no strings attached and therefore people can work on top of it and can move to less costly areas. And it doesn't even slash all the programs so there would be additional help. "Some people need way more than that to survive"... who? I understand that a paraplegic for example would, but UBI doesn't slash such help. " And since people on welfare and foodstamps still struggle"... they struggle because that money is conditional and can be denied at any moment and can't be supplemented... not the case with UBI with whom one can even move to a cheaper place. ", an >>extra<< $1000" on top of the rest of all help... no... denying the possible in the name of the impossible is how this idea got killed in the past and that is how so many people died on the street; so many children went to school unfed and so many people struggled their whole life. People that already receive 12k help a year should not try and torpedo the help for all the people that don't receive it. Because the current system is extremely inefficient and extremely poor at serving everybody and just ends up sending the money to people that are good at getting it... not people that deserve it more or need it more. And the help those people are receiving can be lowered and removed any time while UBI would be a lot harder to play funny with.

... and prices will go up because share holders want their returns on investment now.

@johnryan3102 why would you say that? Nothing wrong with businesses not making a boatload of cash while providing jobs.

@maxpowers3494 what are you blabbering on about?

@maxpowers3494 Not a comprehension problem... was just disgustingly stupid.

that is coming whether we like it or not. We can adapt or just look at more and more people ending on the street up to riots burning all the wealth down.

@gg_rider I was thinking HG Wells but didn't check.

@johntowers1213 you make a good point, but keep in mind UBI also means a lot more money in the communities those small businesses sell to and it also gives 12k to the business owner and his eventual wife every year... and it will also help their children pay for their studies and so on. I think it's a good deal. Also, systems are getting better and better at having solutions for small businesses to deal with VAT.

@yoij-ov3sd yah. People with money are more interested in starting their own business/co-ops than people without... I think as you do that UBI would push in that direction.

@marciukspuks5353 I love Bernie, but that job guarantee will never happen because it's flawed when technology works better than humans do. UBI, by giving resources to citizens will create more jobs just by providing that money allowing people to unleash their creativity. What I love about UBI is that it's a leftist wet dream and it plays well in a capitalistic society which means this is doable as people from both sides can get behind it.
