This is a complete misunderstanding of professional sports and athletes. Athletes aren't biological extremes, they are just people that have decided to focus their efforts on improving themselves in their chosen sport like almost anyone can. They aren't special. And fairness has been a VERY important point when it comes to competitive sports where people are playing as a career. Otherwise things like using steroids would be permitted, or really ANY other kind of cheating. To say that "Fairness has never been the point" Is either totally ignorant or willing disingenuous.

@robertabrahamsen9076 It doesn't matter how few there were the fact that there were any at all dispoves your assertion.
37
@xynix1549 quite a few, actually theres one guy who was in the NBA at 5,3
32
@xynix1549 no you need both to be one of the best, you only need 1 to succeed.
24
@robertabrahamsen9076 "how many successful basketball players are 5,8" your assertion here is that a person cant be a successful basket ball player without having biologically extreme height. Otherwise you would have not mentioned their height at all.
16
@robertabrahamsen9076 The assertion that people need to be biological extremes to accel in sports and the olmypics.
13
Not when you are attempting to intentionally seem unbiased to manipulate people into doing what you want. Trying to be less biases is good, but you should always acknowledge your biases.
12
The line was funny but wholy inaccurate. The Olympics are very much not a freak show. It is the representation of human determination and drive, those people at the Olympics practice YEARS to be top level athletes and under go grueling training. To chalk their achievements up to being "freaks" is a bit disingenuous and honestly quite disrespectful.
9
@robertabrahamsen9076 Advantage is irrelevant as thats not what you said. You said "how many 5'8" basketball players are you seeing succeed in the NBA" as if saying that there were no, and then when I told you how many there were you shifted the goal post. Simply having height isnt gonna put you at such an advantage that you can just completely outplay any player that has practiced the game for years. Thus height is not the most important aspect when it comes to the sport, the end.

Why would you need to normalize something thats already normal?
6
The point she brought up about non binary is mostly exaggerated. a VAST majority off "non binary" people very easily can be categorized into one of the two genders. Most intersex people are very noticeably the gender they are assigned at birth, intersex as a phenomenon accounts for under .001 percent of the population, and like I said before a vast majority of those people very clearly are one gender but sometimes have some genetic deformities such as a male being born with a micro penis, ;yes that counts as intersex; or a woman being born with an enlarged clitoris. So reformatting our entire structure of gender and sports for such as small minority of people is very ill advised.

@shoutmon1337 You VERY much need gender divisions when it comes to sports if you actually want them to be competitive at all. Gender divisions if anything are MORE important than weight divisions considering almost all sports have gender divisions but only combat sports mostly have weight classes. A man and a woman in the same weight class isnt even really a contest, hell even if the woman has a weight advantage its still not fair ESPECIALLY in regards to combat sports. What's "under the hood" has an drastic effect on a person's physical performance.

At this point things like ADHD and autism are just buzzwords people use as a way to try and claim for some sort of special attribute to thier personality.
4
Robot will you use the robot?
4
We are in space baby jail.
4
In theory even if trump and musk policies are cutting into the actual legitimate research being done then that research should eventually be able to make its way back up though just sheer merit.
3
Academia should be subject to the free market just like everything else.
3
@uru-annapace You seem to really like masking your failure to comprehend peoples points with sarcasm. Everything, ie everything a human can possibly get good at in the modern world, cooking, cleaning, stem fields, management, counseling, literally every field that humans partake in has some aspect that can be made easier by having some kind of innate biological advantage, thats called life. No one is equal, never have been and never will be. But trying to attribute all of a persons success to just being born lucky is incredibly arrogant and just makes people look envious.
3
Keep it open source, guard rails only make things worse, we aren't children.
3
@Muenni What do seperate groups have to do with biological extremes? Are you saying men are biological extremes compared to women? Because thats obviously wrong considering that makeup have to worlds population. There are seperate groups and divisions because of fairness. Otherwise you would have height divisions in basketball and the like.
3
@salazarreach1636 You do realize drug use is banned in sports right? Not even medical steroids can be used. And no most drugs are not "invisible". Even drugs that haven't currently been detected WILL be detected in the future as sports take samples from the players and retroactively retest those samples once new methods of identifying drug use have been discovered. So no, the VAST VAST majority of athletes DO NOT use drugs and for you to think that just proves my point of people like you simply trying to downplay the achievements of other just to make yourselves feel better.

The government.
2
@ The government funds the research, thus investors do not get their money back when the research is either published or is made useable because its basically publicly funded and thus cant be patented or have money made off it.
2
@DJFariel It stops them from buying it. There is no point in them funding something if they can't make their money back.
2
@marksweeney5032 The confusion is intentional, the fraudsters in the scientific communities to well to hide themselves and thus making it harder to pin them down, but the results of their fraudulent activity is plain to see due to the results it has had on reducing the efficiency of research. Why shouldnt we grief a class of elites who are protecting each other while parasiting off of the tax dollars of the citizens they are suppose to be working for?
2
How about just less regulations on an industry than only has said regulations due to pure fear mongering.
2
@theskull1030 I mean thats for combat sports though, where people INTENTIONALLY get hurt. Compared to sports like basket ball where people arent throwing punches at each other, thats why those other sports dont have weight classes.
2
Isnt this just taking the life of the unborn before they have a chance to be born? sounds more like eugenics? Which in retrospect I guess does fit the description of "genetic selection" .
2
@menow. That 2% number is a WILD mis-estimation. In reality is the true number lies below that number between my value and that. I know that it is like below 1% at least, not ENTIRLY sure how much. Ive seen estimations ranging from 0.5% to 0.001%
2
Honestly with how often climate "scientist" and political pundits keep changing the time line of climate change no wonder people stopped caring. Its gotten to the point where is just fear mongering and people got tired of it. Basically just a bunch of lunies shouting "THE END IS NEIGH"

@arcadiaberger9204 a statistically average person stands a very high chance at becoming an Olympian if they under went the same training and circumstances actually. They probably would be average among other Olympic competitors instead of at the top. But they would indeed still be olympic level athletes. In the Bruce wayne example a more apt comparison would be if say bruce wayne had two separate paths in life. One where be stays Batman and one where his parents dont die. Obviously the one that keeps his parents wouldnt be as powerful but they are still the same person. Its the same with the Olympics, its about circumstance, not genes.
2
@uru-annapace I wasn't the one who brought up bruce wayne.
2
@joeiborowski9763 No, Someone with a massive height advantage isnt beating a short professional basketball player. And even with the appropriate genetic disposition for running a professional runner without said disposition will still beat an untrained runner with that disposition. Genetics aren't the most important, training is. At the levels you are talking about you arent even referring to most olympic competitors, you are referring to the the top 1% of compatitors.
2
Thing is, its not apolitical, it never has been, and never will be, thus it should at least be subject to the law of supply and demand along with the free market of economy and ideas like everything else. So that bad ideas cant be propped up and need to actually be of use to get funded.
2
@shardator Prove it
2
@alangil40 Even if you were all those things as and NFL line backer if you are a bad player the better player will still win most of the time without said benefits. There is a MASSIVE difference between being a men and women vs being slightly more athletic. For women really everything about them is physically inferior compared to men when it comes to sports, its not just a height difference or a weight difference or a speed difference its everything, and the extremes your talking about that level of a difference just flat out doesn't exist.
2
@amai-w8f That is an excuse people use to either not try something or to absolve themselves for a failure. Its used by those who don't want to accept personal responsibility and simply want to blame some outside force for a failure, its VASTLY more "toxic" than the idea that "if you put effort you can achieve anything".
2
@amai-w8f Sports aren't 100% fair be cause its physically impossible for things to be 100% fair. That doesn't mean they don't or shouldn't try to be as fair as possible.
2
techniquilly the first and second dimention also dont "exist" that we know of, they are just ways in which we measure our surroundings.
2
open competitions ARE profitable as segregated divisions. Mens sports isnt called mens sports its just called sports. Thats because in "mens sports" it doesnt matter if your a man or a woman as long as you meet the requirements to be on a team. But since women dont meet those requirements you dont see them on teams with men. Naturally this is because of biology so we create a seperate segregated division for women which frequently is seen as not as popular or profitable.
2
You do know that the concept of public educations entire purpose was to churn out obedient factory works right? Not people who critically think. so its the opposite of your claim. Academia encourages fascism, its the only way, since its a central body that controls other peoples children's education and thus the future of the nation.
2
And people wonder why trump wants to cut unnecessary funding going to stuff like this.
2
What do you mean ridiculous Thats the entire point, the be a fair match, other wise you would just have cheaters doing anything they possibly can to win, at that point what is even the point in playing? The purpose is to WIN after all, not just to play for the hell of it.
1
No not all research is useful, all research has POTENTIAL to be useful, big different, there is objectively useless research we just don't know which, but we can estimate. And in cases where individuals are even groups cannot accurately predict something, then the free market works wonders.
1
Well what classifys anything as being pointless or not? What end goal do you think is worth pursuing that sports dont meet the critera for ?
1
@theskull1030 Particulerly when it comes to combat sports gender is MUCH more important of a variable compared to weight class beucase of just how much more physically powerful men are compared to women in combat.
1
@theskull1030 A certain level of disadvantage is fine since obviously there can never be perfect balance, but the inherent disadvantage of gender when it comes to sports is just too great to be balanced out by other advantages such as skill discrepancy.
1
@theskull1030 That disadvantage use to be much worse until they increased the height of basketball rims. But believe me, even height differences such as that don't compare to the gender differences especially considering men are on average taller so you could maybe even include height as apart of gender disparity.
1
Also it rings hollow considering the climate alarmist aren't actually being rational about the alternative energy sources, especially nuclear. It just looks like posturing, virtue signaling.
1
Beucase facism doesn't mean anything, its just a pejorative used to mean "people I don't like" a tactic quite commonly used by leftist to get what they want. its emotional manipulation and people don't fall for it anymore.
