Most jews didn't seek hiding but waited for the letter to show up for transport. Those who went in hiding went mostly to the rural areas. Dutch defence had been relying on the Hollandic waterline, an area to be flooded around Amsterdam and the navy ports, development in air plane technology had made that less relevant and didn't deterr like it did in WW1.

  2. Why should the Dutch have the same reckoning as the Germans? The Dutch were victim, the Dutch jews only a minority of the Dutch victims. Antisemitism in the Netherlands always comes from outside, first the Spanish, then the Germans and now the muslims. It is not an archive of war criminals but an archive of everyone once reported on as possible collaborator. So also those that were friendly with the Germans to more successfully hide jews or gentile Dutch the Germans sought.
