  2. Allthough I tend to side with the downthrodden, this was not just 'religious conflict all over Europe'. Northern Ireland and even Britain were just a stage to a much larger geopolitical conflict between the religious tolerant protestants led by the stadtholder of the Dutch Republic, Willem III of Orange, and the catholics led by Louis XIV of France, who simply wanted to torture and burn all protestants and annihilate the Dutch Republic. It's was not just protestants vs catholics, like they are equal and interchangeable. It was religious freedom vs theocracy and the inquisition. The catholics were the baddies back then. Willem III let the catholics be catholic.
