He was from the Dutch Republic, he simply wasn't that backward as the British with their alpha male kings wanting absolute power, the divine right of kings and glory in bloody battles. The Dutch Republic had been past that for a very long time and when the Spanish king tried to reinstall absolute rule in the Netherlands, it was the beginning of the end for the Spanish Empire. At home Willem had to deal with a parliament of commoners that had appointed him as the stadtholder, no biggy to deal with an English parliament.
