  1. His propaganda campaign to get popular support and him asking a few rather insignificant parliamentarians to invite him to pretend legitimacy was certainly interesting. But both are jus self serving British propaganda of that day that have made it to the 21st century because it's self serving. There is no proof whatsoever of DeWitt being eaten or any involvement of Willem III and he invaded, conquered and ruled England with nobody able to do something about it. He was from the Dutch Republic, he simply wasn't that backward as the British with their alpha male kings wanting absolute power, the divine right of kings and glory in bloody battles. The Dutch Republic had been past that for a very long time and when the Spanish king tried to reinstall absolute rule in the Netherlands, it was the beginning of the end for the Spanish Empire. At home Willem had to deal with a parliament of commoners that had appointed him as the stadtholder, no biggy to deal with an English parliament.
