  1. We don't vote for the prime minister, a primus inter pares, but for the house that appoints a cabinet including a prime minister. The VVD is not liberal, it's conservative, hard neoliberal right economics and authoritarian. Social progressiveness has been throughout the whole political landscape for many decades, with only a tiny christian party and the muslim party as exceptions.

  2.  @NaSaSh1087  Neoliberalism is the political trend that started with Thatcherism and Reaganomics and promotes offshoring, tax havens, globalisation, upscaling, speculation with money, real estate, food etc and shifting money from labour to capital. It also prefers making money the easy way, from what people need rather than want and freely choose for like health care and housing. City state The Netherlands and mass immigration fits perfectly in that. Socially progressive is hardly a thing in the Netherlands. The Christian-Democrats weren't very anti-gay or anti-abortion for decades either.
