I once bought a vintage Sansui timer, so I could use the amplifier and radio as an extra alarm clock, which was necessary. To my surprise it was 12 minutes off every hour. Turns out the clock ran on the frequency of the grid and there was a switch on the back to change between European and US/Japan. I never knew elektricity had a frequency and I still don't understand how. A friend had internet through the electric circuit in his house, he's kind of a techy, that surprised me too.

I believe you, I was just surprised by it. I have repaired and installed sockets and I think safely, but actually electricity is quite abstract, hard to get some fundamental understanding of what it actually is and how it really works.

@drcl7429 Thanks. I guess because I don't understand electricity at a fundamental level, I keep getting suprised.

Nice to enjoy a well thought through design. But maybe it's best feature is that it communicates the danger of the elektricity if you grow up with them, and service them or see them serviced. If even the manufacturers don't take elektricity serious, why should you?

I think he meant there might be a problem with the socket and/or it's switch. But then you plug in another device and then you know.
