  1. Did you know that the Subaru engine was originally of British make and design . Two brothers, William and Benjamin JOWETT , designed and developed a horizontally opposed V twin in the early 1900' s. In 1936 the boxer four made it's first appearence and the brothers designed a very advanced 4 door saloon post war. Sadly they didn't have the facilities for large scale production and went into liquidation in the 1950's . Subaru bought the copyright 's to the engine and developed it into the amazing piece of engineering we have today. I can recall driving an Impreza in the early ' 90's. In those day's it only made 210 bhp but was crazy compared to what was out there. The only comparison we had ( in the UK ) was the 4WD Sierra 2.8 V6 which frankly was a tractor in comparison, the Subaru was very well engineered.
