  3. You can't catch radiation unlike what most people think. Not if it is not in the air like with a big dust cloud. I don't know how much more background radiation is in the area but it would have to be very extreme to have a big effect in a short time and you'd get radiation poisoning effects.

  4.  @pahvi3  It is in the air for a couple days but most of the cancer causing isotopes have a halflife of a few days and after a few weeks at most they have settled to the ground anyhow. After that the background radiation will be a bit higher but not much. And probably since they put dirt over the area they were filming even that would not be the case. Now you would not want to build houses or grow crops here but spending 8 hours a day for a few months in the area will probably have literally no effect.They make a big scare about nuclear bombs but the earth is gigantic and wiping out the whole planet would be impossible. If all the bombs ever produced went off at once it would not equate to the amount of energy hitting the earth from the sun in a single second. Yes they can blow up the downtown area of every major city easily, but that is about it and you could do that just as easily with normal bombs.

  6. Radiation is not a germ you can catch by passing through an area. If you lived on the test site your whole life your cancer rate would be much higher but the idea you can spend a couple months there and kill half the crew is utterly ridiculous. Heart disease and cancer are what people mainly die of in first world countries where infection death is rare. 40% dying of cancer is about what you expect.

  13.  @SianaGearz  I am pretty sure it was several years later and they also buried the ground in several feet of earth. Surprisingly the people near nuke sites actually have less cancer and better survival rates. The reason seems to be that tiny amounts of radiation are enough to trigger your DNA repair mechanisms but not enough to do serious damage.
