  5. What annoys me is they always scoff at the numbers. In WW I there were MILLIONS of soldiers but most of them were in support or holding some of the endless expanses of lines. In medieval times the whole army on each side gathered together as many men as humanly possible and they just fought til one side collapsed. Of course the numbers of dead in the larger battles would be positively apocalyptic - the entire army could get wiped out if things went bad.
