There is another one who was kidnapped who was a very tall preacher in neighboring country. In the middle of his sermon half a dozen German guys with big sacks rushed in and carried him right out of the pulpit. You can't make stuff like this up.

In the modern military being big and strong is very helpful for special forces because there is so much equipment and ammo to carry, but you could not be a fighter pilot or tank crewman.

It depends on their genetics. McAskill did not have gigantism in spite of his crazy height, he was of normal proportions and he was insanely strong. Most of them have gigantism and don't have a body structure to be healthy.

Well even in modern times if you are a war hero your fortune is made. In Imperial times you could easily become a lord or high ranking officer through daring do, and that would make you a relatively rich man or even an extremely rich man who could easily support a family and often create a family wealth that could last forever if your heirs were intelligent. While if you did not own land at the time the chance you'd successfully raise a family were very low (and it is today, too when you think about it). But modern warfare is probably anti-eugenic because there are many specialized jobs that require a lot of intelligence but are insanely dangerous.

@TheYeetedMeat base 10 is inferior because .333 and .666. It's really not hard, metric is stupid in inumerable ways if you actually look at it closely and base 10 is just one. There are also issues with imperial but they were all made that way in relatively modern times and need not have been.

Very true. Now that I am older, every time I get down on the floor I worry I will break something. Also falling from a height is a real worry.

Anyone who thinks Napoleon was a great or smart guy is seriously crackers. He was a terrible general, he just had everyone attack attack attack without much plan. He got absolutely humiliated when he went against the turks and finally fought a competent general with a good sized force. Then he fled and blamed the disaster on one of his marshalls. Not sure if it was anything to do with short man syndrome but he was a lot like hitler in his 'planning'.

@brll5733 It's got a celtic structure, which is what makes it so easy to learn. So it's the best of all languages or at least the most useable. German is probably better for expressing things but not very handy.

@runtergerutscht4401 Unlike england and france which had more secure positions, most of europe had to rely heavily on a strong leader to keep from getting wiped out and the leaders had to actually be competent. Now you don't get competence or strength, you just get corruption which is pretty much the point to establishing fake democracies where no one gets to vote directly on anything important.
