Messiah concept is nothing new and the jews produced "messiahs by the sackful", and the star of Bethlehem was actually a triple conjunction which is very rare and would have been taken extremely seriously at the time as a harbinger of incredible upheaval - which certainly did occur not just in Jerusalem but over the whole planet. So it's not only in character but also very likely, and there is no reason to think this would be noted in any historical work besides the bible even if they did exist. But they don't. This is on level with the geniuses who think Jesus didn't exist because he had no birth certificate and is only referenced in one history book. THERE IS ONLY ONE. Jesus didn't have a birth certificate or passport, and the only reason we have Josephus's works at all is because the church preserved them since they were about the holy land. Otherwise we'd have absolutely nothing except a few inscriptions just like we do for 99% of the Mediterranean. Palestine was an incredibly insignificant place at the time and not very large, and Israel a tiny portion of that roman province. Of the Samaritans for example who had about the same level of significance at the time, we have basically nothing. It's also no surprise Jesus parallels Moses, every prophet parallels the other. If you believe it's true then you accept this is ordained, if not you believe it's either all a giant pack of lies or huge coincidence. There's no point picking at little details of the bible, it's true or not. Many parts of it which mention historical events and lineages really don't have much point so they were probably just put in there for context and as notable events, and this seems to be one of them.
