  1. They want to backdocument things that no one kept track of or had any reason to, suddenly 'memory safety' is incredibly important in code that is 30 years old and obviously working well. When processing output from outside the computer that's untrusted like in a web browser or ssh server this is very important. For all this other stuff it's just stupid and it's also absolutely impossible to figure out decades later. So they want something impossible and pointless and if they don't do it then they are naziwaawaa bad people holding back progress.
