One of my favorite jokes in university was "What do you call a conservative sociologist?....unemployed"

It's not a complete lack. We have unemployment insurance, publicly funded retirement pension, health insurance for poor people, etc. It's just not as robust as in Europe.

Well, to me, self defense is if a riot breaks out in your neighborhood and rioters try to violently force their way into your house...in that case, fire away. If you grab your assault rifle and drive several hours away to a place where you have no friends, family or property to defend...you are an idiot.

@atlas567 If you understand English, why not write a response in English?

To me, we conceive of Latino or Hispanic in the USA, as somebody who is a mestizo, 60% to 70% Amerindian with 30 to 40% white ancestry. So, technically, these are mixed race people.

I am a product of a university in the USA. I used to get into debates with my professors who advocated full on communism in the USA. They felt that a few technical adjustments were all that was needed to make it a viable economic institution in the country...nuts.

@javiersaenz1040 Most are the other way around.

@enticingmay435 Sad but true

There is a sizeable minority of latinos who are white. However, most of them are Amerindian genetically.

The way it is said in English is "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is King"

This video makes an excellent point. The USA cherry picks immigrants from Asia but the country bumpkins from Latin America just waltz across the border. These folks are the functional equivalent of poor crackers from Apalachia. Since they represent the vast majority of Latino immigrants, they color the American populations perception of them. The truth is that Latin America has a sizeable population of well educated professionals with advanced skills and degrees who have an excellent command of English. If our immigration policy cherry picked them instead of Mexican hill billies, our perception of Latinos would be similar to that of Asians.

@WastedBananas Cute You Tube handle...I have actually met some of them in person 😀

These rural Turks remind me a lot of rural Mexicans in the USA. In large Mexican enclaves like Los Angeles, the matches between Team USA and Mexico that take place in LA have overwhelming fan support from the Mexicans.

Accents are hard to modify for most people.

The cultural differences between the USA and Europe are not as vast as between Europe and Asia.

Try Australia...better weather. If you enjoy Canadian style weather, try Idaho, Montana or North Dakota.

"Energy ties" would be more appropriate vs "energetic ties"

Low levels of cousin marriage? That's what the South is all about. They call it Kin tucky for a reason 🤣

I can't see the human race disappearing.

The world at large can fuel US demographics for decades to come. Only when the incentives to stay outweigh the incentive to migrate, will this endless source of people abate.

Another thing I have noticed about Canadian culture is how they take pride in following rules. And, yes, true. A lot of immigrants use Canada as a springboard to migrate to the USA.

He had no business being there. He had no friends, family or property to defend. So, in a very narrow, technical sense, it was self defense, but seriously, there has to be some culpability there since he put himself in a volatile situation for no justifiable reason.

@lvnick915 He sure does. I am not making a legal argument. I am saying from a moral, ethical and common sense POV it wasn't a smart move.

The USA effectively functions as the "out group" for Canada. Its part of the national identity. Its also serves as the out group for Mexico as well.

@PeruvianPotato Good point

@netero1682 Todos los paises celan su identidad, religion, cultura, etnia, etc.

All immigrant groups think they are going to set up a colony in the target country, unaffected by the "host" population.

@urphakeandgey6308 Most Hispanics are Catholic in name only.
