  2. Excellent point about the compressed time line between bird strike and landing. Simulator practice scenarios are clean in the sense that variables are controled. They rarely drill with multiple critical failures happening simultaneously. So, take the Miracle on the Hudson. You had an amazing combination of captain and first officer on the flight deck. Both were very competent and had years of experience. They experienced a dual engine failure due to a bird strike. Both pilot and FO saw the birds and were able to anticipate a potential emergency. Luckily for them: 1. They had sufficent altitude and momentum to allow them some reaction time and to have landing options 2. No further failrures ocurred beyond the dual engine flame out. 3. All emergency back up systems were nominal So, they were able to focus on bringing the plane down as safely as possible.
