  1. Your logic is faulty when it comes to restaurants. People don't postpone restaurant purchases for a year in the hope that prices will come down. They simply look at their current disposable income and determine if going out to eat is affordable when the spirit moves them. It is a borderline impulse purchase. Postponing the purchase of big ticket, durable items makes sense if A. You can delay the purchase and B. You reasonably expect the prices will continue falling. Let's say I live in Kansas City in 2009, have a stable government job, rent and apartment and have a desire to purchase a home. I know that I will not be homeless if I don't buy a home. I also see that home prices are trending downwards and may continue to do so for a few more years. So, why not wait until today's 300K house is selling for 240K in 2 years?
