  2. Europe, as a whole, is a continent full of capable people. The problem is that it is divided among different languages and cultures. This makes migration more difficult as, let's say, a talented engineer from Spain might want to move to Germany, but will be burdened with the requirement of learning German as an adult. However, if the same Spanish engineer were to move to the USA with their already good command of English, then it is a less difficult transition for them.

  4. I think the national governments of Europe have gotten used to not having a large defense burden for nearly 80 years. So, it is understandable that they have not budgeted for this. Let's be clear, however. Europe is quite capable of defending itself. It has the people and resources to do so.

  7. ​@Bagginsess This argument makes sense. Here in Seattle metro, politicians wanted to buy new boats for our ferry system from Louisiana because they were 10% cheaper than our locally made ones. What thry failed to grasp was that the multiplier effect of having it made in state more than made up for the higher price.
