  1. @Sumbarine  It's because they had favorable terrain to defend, the USA pulled its punches and North Vietnam had a lot of material support from the Soviet Union and China. Also, the South Vietnam government was weak and corrupt, AF and seemed to do everything it could to undermine the war effort.
