I can throw out my own hypothesis. A lot of it could be fear. We are not that far removed from Jim Crow days where you literally could not travel without fear of something bad happening. A lot of black "United Statsers" 😀😀 don't have the $$ for travel and those that that do are more focused on getting themselves established in their careers, buying a house, etc. And, yeah, like you said, American work culture doesn't really encourage taking a lot of time off from work.

Yeah, the Philippines is a 30 day visa, but you can extend for up to a year by showing up at the immigration office every month with some $$. The C.O.L. is cheap and they have lots of beaches and nice people. One of the major downsides is the omnipresent heat and humidity.

Love the earthquake effect. Does that come standard in your editing software? 😀

I get the rubber neck reaction when I go to the Philippinee. Had a little girl staring at me for several minutes in a public market...thought she was seeing a ghost. 😀

Hmm, well, at national government levels, those who rule are not fools. They are quite bright.

Another thing I forgot to mention. I don't know if this is unique to Mexico, but I have noticed how Mexicans sit on the hoods of other people's cars. This first happened to me just south of the border. I was waiting inside my car and two men sat on my hood. I was initially shocked, but realized this was just a natural part of the culture. When I was ready to leave I was going to "honk" so that they would get off my hood. However, I didn't do m this as I assumed it would upset them. I just turned on the motor and they got off.

Mexico is a great place to be an entrepreneur. But, being an albinil chofer., etc. not so much.

I identify with this video. As a youth from the USA, I learned Spanish and then spent over a year in Mexico speaking nothing but Spanish and completely immersing myself in the culture. It got to the point to where I almost felt like I belonged, but it was a painful process since not all Mexicans were patient with my limited language skills and cultural faux pas.

Your "Small Towns" song is going to chart in the Top 40, bro 🤣

My observations: I wasn't aware that the bolillo got rid of fears. I know that they are SO delicious, however. Mexicans have an interesting hand gesture for saying "no thanks" to a roaming merchant at the beach, which is to hold the hand up and turn the back of the hand toward the person making the offer. On that same note, the hand gesture for showing "extreme disapproval" of another person's mother is....hmmm...an interesting exercise in contortion and inversion requiring full use of forearm strength, deltoid muscles and folding the fingers onto themselves. I have also noticed that Mexicans don't mind staring at strangers. I remember being at a camera store many years ago in Tijuana. I was waiting for my turn to speak to the attendant. All of the customers in the store stopped talking, turned toward me and stared at me in silence, as if waiting to see if "This gringo" was going to speak English or Spanish. I stared back at them but they kept staring back quite peacefully....hmmm.

Keen observations about immigrant motivations. I agree 100%. The intent is economic. This is why, when you have a sizeable enclave of your fellow countrymen and you are able to work, socialize, shop and get healh care in your langauge, you dont bother to learn the host country's language or culture. In regards to not having service staff who speak German, well, how rude. If 40% or more of your customer base is German speaking, you can at least have a manager who can help out or give your service staff some instruction in basic German.

Loved the subtle dig at Marines 😊👍

I think the fake polyglot phenomena has to do with their ability to acquire a near native accent quickly and parrot a few phrases and the fact that most English speakers are monolingual. If you really challenge them, you will discover that they have basic conversational skills only.

CDMX is my old hood. Haven't been there since 1995.
