The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered

Comments by "hilariousname" (@hilariousname6826) on "The 1837 Canadian Rebellions" video.
First you say you've never "seen an English person acknowledge our rebellion in Québec", and then you imply that you're used to hearing it spoken of in Canada in tones that are not "neutral". You're not hearing "English" people talking about it, so who is it that's speaking of it in these non-neutral tones - "French" people? Btw, the rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada are on the history curriculum everywhere in Canada ....

With much cringing.

Don't you think it would be more helpful, as a historian, to tell us what the errors of fact and interpretation are?
2
@rogergoodman8665 Grilled cheese sandwich??! You think I'm rich, or something??

And Americans still haven't gotten over it - 250 years later ... !

Yeah, whatever ..................
1
Sure, pal, whatever you say ... (LOL!) .........
1
The British; i.e., the forces of the British crown - not "the English".
1
Was wondering if he was consciously giving it a bit of the French pronunciation ... ?

@olfer07 I believe several posters have mentioned 'Patriots Day'; this poster seems to be clarifying any misunderstanding that this name for the holiday has a long history, that's all. Seems kind of obvious.
1
And we'd have ended up part of the US - wouldn't that be wonderful .................
1
@longiusaescius2537 ?
1
They do teach this in school. In Canadian schools, anyway.
1
@anthonibarbe6503 If you think Canada lives under any threat of "the king of England" sending an "army to shut the fuck up anybody who wants real democracy", you are living in some Mel Gibson la-la land of delusion. I don't know if it's more funny or sad that you could write, so passionately, such complete and utter nonsense.

Whatever the Americans had and have going on, we Canadians don't want it, thank you.
1
@inconnu4961 Keep telling yourself that - when you're not too busy chanting USA! USA! USA!
1
........... (yawn) .....................
1
LOL! Okay, pal .............
1
@SusanA1056 He's one of those pathetically insecure Americans who can't deal with the fact that not everyone in the world wants to be American.
1
Never heard of Aboriginal people involved in that. And I doubt it.
1
@lisashephard2974 I would love to see some source to support that - but I don't imagine there is one. Don't know where you got that; generally, the tie with the Crown was and, AFAIK, still is highly valued by Aboriginals.
1
@lisashephard2974 That's the kind of answer I expected. I have read fairly extensively in Canadian history and have never come across any of those "numerous" "references". In fact, I don't believe there are any. Please prove me wrong. Or - just give me a little hint: tell me what to put into a google search to find one of these supposed "references".
1
He was giving a quick overview; you can't expect him to go into all that. Some fascinating stories there, nonetheless, that deserve to be better known.
1
Wha - ?????
1
@rogergoodman8665 Well ... we do know which side our bread is buttered on ... !
1
@inconnu4961 'they spend their national holiday agonizing over "what it means to be Canadian."' Where on earth did you get that? Most Canadians take the kids to the beach on July 1, or have a few brews in the back yard with a friend or two, or head out to the bush. Why do you insist on spouting off about things you know nothing about?
1
There simply wasn't that much support for the rebellion on the Canadian side.
1
Sure, pal. LOL!
1
The American "Revolution" or War of "Independence".
